41st CHEF Annual Meeting features Ian Morrison on February 28, 2017 from 5-8pm
By: Monica Garcia Norlander

Silicon Valley-based Dr. Ian Morrison is a timely keynote speaker at Chicago Health Executives Forum?s (CHEF) historically most well-attended event, the CHEF Annual meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Morrison Photoin downtown Chicago, Illinois.

A recent interview with Communications Committee members provides a glimpse into the topics Dr. Morrison plans to address with the CHEF event attendees. Among these topics are predictions on what the next four or possibly eight years have in store given the 2016 election results and President-elect Donald Trump?s vision for ?repeal and replace? of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). ?Elections matter ?although ?replace? is very difficult,? says Morrison. Morrison says there may be an increase of the uninsured, control at the state level, and potentially less money compared to recent times.

However, other variables are to remain the same such as industry consolidation, purchasers concerned about affordability, and opportunities for payers and providers to work better together, as well as the need for physician leadership more than ever.

One thing is certain: change is the only constant. Morrison says that elections aside, he knows Americans to be adaptable and always up for the challenge. Chicago is extremely well-positioned to influence local and national public policy, given major players, among them not limited to Northwestern Medicine and Advocate.

While change may be constant, the journey of continuous improvement to reach the Triple Aim, first coined by Dr. Don Berwick, of a focus on improvement of the patient experience, reduction of cost per capita, and a focus on population health, should remain the North Star. There will be many exciting challenges in the move from volume to value and there is much to be optimistic about.

As we engage in this exciting upcoming event, we can ask ourselves, as Morrison has asked, ?How far up on the causes of determinants of health are healthcare providers willing to go?? There is much work to do to address these determinants and it is a great time for local groups, such as CHEF, to get together and control our own destiny.

We look forward to seeing you in the New Year, ready to tackle exciting challenges of the healthcare landscape ahead!
