CHEF welcomed over 300 attendees to its 43rd Annual Meeting at Soldier Field. Executives, students, and guests enjoyed networking and dinner followed by opening remarks from outgoing President, Timothy Weidman who encouraged members to stay engaged and get involved in CHEF networking and educational events. Guests enjoyed ample networking time throughout the entire evening. Metropolitan Chicago ACHE Regent, Rupert M. Evans, Sr., FACHE kicked off the awards program by presenting the 2018 ACHE Awards:

  • Health Studies Student Leadership Award

  • Healthcare Leadership Award
    Georgia Casciato, FACHE, Managing Director, Healthcare Syntegrity – an RTI International Company
  • Career Achievement Award

Theresa Burkhart, FACHE, Awards Committee Co-Chair, Craig Miller, FACHE, 2019 CHEF President, and Timothy Weidman, 2018 CHEF President presented the 2018 CHEF Awards:

Keynote speaker, Jon Burroughs, MD, MBA, FACHE, FAAPL encouraged attendees to imagine healthcare systems of the future and challenged leaders to think beyond the status quo. Having worked with some of the nation’s top healthcare organizations, Dr. Burroughs shared many thought-provoking take-aways on “How we can succeed in healthcare transformation,” prompting questions and much discussion. He shared a few predictions that we should expect to see in 21st century healthcare:

  • More risk for all parties (including the consumer)
  • Less futile end of life care
  • Increase in e-health access and virtual care
  • More focus on predictive analytics
  • Continuous growth in viewing physicians as strategic business partners vs “care providers”
  • Global competition will continue to expand

In closing, Craig Miller, 2019 CHEF President thanked CHEF sponsors for their support and expressed excitement for the year ahead. He also acknowledged all incoming and outgoing board members and committee chairs for their service to CHEF.
